Deputy CM Chowna Mein Unveils Septage Treatment Plant in Chongkham, Lays Foundation for Lohit Organic Processing Unit in Medo
Chowkham (Arunachal Pradesh) : Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, inaugurated the Septage Management and Treatment Plant at Alubari in Chongkham for the cluster towns of Namsai, Chongkham, Tezu, Roing and rural areas in the periphery of urban towns. This project, funded under the Budget Announcement of 2021-22, marks a key milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to improve sanitation and public health.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the transformative impact of the Septage Management and Treatment Plant, highlighting its importance as a sustainable solution to address the region’s sanitation challenges owing to rapid urbanization and rising population. He stressed that the initiative not only provides an effective waste management system but also contributes to environmental conservation, better public health, and improved living conditions for the local communities.
Citing that this Septage Management and Treatment Plant is a first of its kind in the eastern part of Arunachal and it will cater to the urban towns of three districts namely, Namsai, Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley Districts, he said that such septage management and treatment plant will be constructed in every urban town of the State for better sanitation and hygienic environment.
He further said that Arunachal Govt is committed to bringing welfare projects that improve the quality of life for its citizens, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of ‘Reform, Perform & Transform’.
He commends District Urban Development Agency, Namsai, M/s Ace Alliance Pvt Ltd., and all those involved in the successful implementation of the project for its timely completion. He also acknowledged the cooperation and support of the villagers of Alu Bari and Nopotia, as well as the land donors, whose contributions were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
The Rs. 2500 Lakhs project focuses on cleaning septic tanks from households, institutions, offices, and other facilities in urban towns like Namsai, Chowkham, Tezu, and Roing, as well as in surrounding rural areas. The collected septage will undergo treatment at the newly inaugurated facility, and the processed sludge will be utilized as non-agricultural manure, suitable for gardening and flower plantations. The treated liquid effluent, free from harmful contaminants, will be safe for disposal and can be used for watering plants, cleaning roads, or even emergency firefighting.
Inauguration program was attended by Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Tezu-Sunpura MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai, Dambuk MLA, Puinnyo Apum, DC Namsai C R Khampa, ZPC Namsai Urmila Mancheykhun, ZPC Lohit, Dasula Krisikro, among others.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Processing Unit of Lohit Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited at Medo, under Wakro Circle in Lohit District.
This integrated unit aims to boost organic farming in the region and create new opportunities for communities in Lohit and surrounding districts of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh. The project, developed under the MOVCD-NER Scheme, is set to cost Rs. 914.75 lakh, as approved by NedFi.
In his inaugural address, Mein expressed that the establishment of such agro-processing units would provide farmers with assured purchasing of their agriculture produces with a Minimum Support Price (MSP), while also establishing market linkages, capacity building, and empowering farmers economically. He said that with the successful completion of the Integrated Processing Unit, we will overcome the bottleneck of marketing of local produces and able to provide an assured buy back of the farmers’ produces.
He also said that in the near future with the coming of railway services to Parshuram Kund and Cargo services to Tezu Airport, marketing of the agriculture & horticulture produces will no more an issue. He further emphasized on strengthening the Krishi Vigyan Kendra with the support of ICAR to help our farmer in the scientific cultivation of crops.
He said that once upon a time this belt was known as Orange bowl of Arunachal Pradesh but due to citrus declining over the years, orange is no more grown in the area. However, the hardworking farmers of the area has made it the producer of finest organic tea in the form of Wakro Organic Tea. He expressed optimistic that with the dedicated team of the Chairman, Managing Director, Promoters, and Members of the Lohit Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited (LOFPCL), we are committed to make this Farmer Producer Company as one of the leading and premier FPC in the State and the region as the hub of organic ginger, turmeric, pumpkin, maize and many other crops.
The Processing Unit will feature a Pre-Processing Line, including essential components such as a Feeding Conveyor, Rod Washer, Brush Washer, Brush Peeler, Bubble Washer, and Inspection Conveyor, followed by Cutting Machines, a Blancher, Online Dryer, Fine Dryer, and Cooling Conveyor for processing organic produce.
