Washigton (USA): With only a few hours remaining for Donald Trump to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, the world’s attention is fixed on his campaign promises, many of which he pledged to fulfill on his very first day in office.

While it is unlikely that the Republican leader will achieve everything he promised on Day 1, his agenda presents an ambitious and impactful list. Some of these commitments can be accomplished through executive orders, while others will require congressional support and even constitutional amendments.

What Has Trump Promised for Day 1?

Here’s a look at the key promises Donald Trump made during his campaign, which he intends to address as soon as he assumes office:

Immigration: Trump has vowed to launch the largest deportation campaign in U.S. history, aimed at removing all individuals living in the country illegally. He also pledged to close borders and put an end to illegal immigration.

Birthright Citizenship: Trump plans to end automatic citizenship for individuals born in the U.S., known as birthright citizenship, which currently applies to children of undocumented immigrants born in the country.

Pardons: The President intends to issue pardons for some or many individuals convicted or charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots, a move he can execute through an executive order.

Tariffs: Trump has signaled a return to trade wars, proposing a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada. He also aims to impose an additional 10% tariff on items already taxed from China. Both measures can be enacted via executive orders.
