Jhansi Tragedy: Negligence of Yogi Government or Irresponsibility of Doctors – Who Will Answer?

New Delhi: The initial short circuit was ignored, and when another occurred at around 10:45 PM, a fire broke out in the NICU ward, claiming the lives of 10 infants. Meanwhile, the state government has formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident.

Officials reported that 16 other injured individuals were battling between life and death on Saturday. The children in the outer section of the NICU were rescued, along with some from the inner section. The committee will be headed by the Director General of Medical Education and Training. Other members include the Director of Medical Health Services (Health), an Additional Director from the Department of Electrical Safety, and an officer nominated by the Director General of the Fire Department.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the committee must submit its report within seven days. The committee will examine the primary cause of the fire, investigate any negligence, and provide recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future. Initial findings suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit. The Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the site at night. Tragically, 10 children lost their lives in the incident, while others were safely rescued. The health department, medical college, administration, and police teams worked together to carry out the rescue operation.

“My condolences are with all the families who lost their children,” said the Chief Minister.

According to officials, 16 other injured individuals were fighting for their lives on Saturday. Children in the outer section of the NICU were successfully rescued, and some from the inner section were also brought out safely. The investigation committee, led by the Director General of Medical Education and Training, includes members such as the Director of Medical Health Services (Health), an Additional Director from the Electrical Safety Department, and an officer appointed by the DG of the Fire Department.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated that the committee must present its report within seven days. It will delve into the root cause of the fire, identify any lapses, and propose measures to avert such tragedies in the future. Preliminary reports cite a short circuit as the cause of the fire.

During the night, the Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak reached the site. Ten children lost their lives, while the remaining were safely evacuated. The health department, medical college staff, and police coordinated effectively in the rescue efforts. “My sympathies are with all families who have suffered this irreplaceable loss,” expressed CM Yogi Adityanath.
