Major Meeting in London Today on Russia-Ukraine Issue, European Leaders to Deliberate
London: A high-level meeting on the Russia-Ukraine issue has been convened in London on Sunday under the leadership of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Several top European leaders, including Germany’s outgoing chancellor and other key officials, have been invited to participate.
The meeting is drawing global attention, especially following a heated exchange between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Meanwhile, Zelensky, who recently returned from the U.S., arrived in London on Saturday, where he received a grand welcome. The UK announced a loan package of $2.84 billion for Ukraine.
For this crucial meeting, PM Starmer has invited European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and European Council President António Costa. Polish PM Donald Tusk, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, and Ukrainian President Zelensky will also be attending.
The emergency meeting aims to discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine war and ensuring Kyiv’s security. Given the recent shift in America’s stance under Trump’s leadership, European leaders will deliberate on their action plan.
The discussion will also cover the intense debate between Trump and Zelensky, with European nations keen to maintain stable relations between the two leaders and ensure continued U.S. support for Ukraine. Additionally, reducing Europe’s dependence on the U.S. is expected to be a key topic during the meeting.
