NSD Adds New Dimension to Theatre Education and Professional Practice in India

New Delhi: In its efforts to promote quality theatre training and performances, the National School of Drama (NSD), under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, to support the revival of its Rangmandal Repertory, which had remained inactive for over two decades.
The MoU was signed recently in Bhopal during a cultural event graced by Shri Mohan Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Government of India, Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, IAS, Principal Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Shri Chittaranjan Tripathy, Director, National School of Drama, among other distinguished dignitaries.
Speaking about the development, Shri Tripathy said, “Bharat Bhavan is a cultural epicenter not only for Madhya Pradesh but for the entire nation. This is certainly a significant step towards presenting quality theatre to the people of Madhya Pradesh and India as a whole. As an NSD ian, it gives me immense pleasure that NSD has become a key player in bringing about this change.”
He further added, “This is also an apt moment to pay homage to Shri B.V. Karanth, former NSD Director—a multifaceted theatre and film personality, a great mentor, and an inspiration to countless people in the fields of theatre, film, and music. He was instrumental in establishing the Bharat Bhavan Rangmandal.”
In another major step, NSD’s newly established Mumbai Centre has commenced its first batch of the One-Year Acting Course at its campus located on Veera Desai Road, Andheri West, with a total intake of 30 students.
The establishment of this centre is in line with NSD’s mission of spreading quality theatre education in different parts of India.
The Mumbai Centre will focus on production-based training under the guidance of eminent theatre practitioners and NSD faculty members.
The centre has state-of-the-art studio facilities and a spacious open-air theatre to facilitate holistic performance-based learning.
