Satya School Launches #BeyondTheObvious Initiative with Vicky Roy to Inspire Young Minds
New Delhi. : Unlocking the power of visual storytelling, Satya School leads the way with its first-of-its-kind initiative #BeyondTheObvious, in collaboration with Vicky Roy, a globally renowned photographer. Launched as part of the summer break program, this initiative aims to encourage Satyans to think creatively, develop their storytelling abilities through visual narratives, and build diverse perspectives by appreciating their surroundings.
Talking about the initiative, Manisha Malhotra, Director Principal, Satya School, Gurugram said, “We are thrilled to launch our #BeyondTheObvious initiative designed to enhance our student’s visual storytelling skills. Photography is a powerful medium for expression; this workshop will help students harness their creativity and use the lens to understand unique perspectives and circumstances. If their pictures can make even one individual reflect and make a difference, then the aim has been achieved. Looking #BeyondTheObvious is all about peeling the layers.

The #BeyondTheObvious initiative marks a shift from traditional learning methods, emphasizing the powerful impact of visual storytelling in education. Recognizing photography as a powerful medium for enhancing imagination and shaping narratives, Vicky Roy conducted an engaging workshop for the students. He taught the students key photography techniques and encouraged them to find the extraordinary in the ordinary and create compelling narratives by drawing inspiration from their surroundings. As a part of this initiative, an exciting photo competition was launched as a summer vacation assignment for students to showcase their creativity. An esteemed jury, consisting of Director Principal Manisha Malhotra and guest photographer Vicky Roy, will select the top entries for social media sharing. The competition will culminate with the announcement of winners on World Photography Day, August 19, 2024.
Vicky Roy, renowned for his exceptional talent and passion for visual storytelling through photography, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, “It’s been a great experience to bring different perspectives to the students at Satya School. This initiative will empower young minds to capture their vision through the lens, enhance their art of communication thus allowing their creativity to soar. I believe that by fostering their innate curiosity and guiding them to see the world through a unique lens, we can inspire the next generation of storytellers.”
From runaway to renowned photographer, Vicky Roy’s journey epitomizes the power of passion and perseverance, inspiring Satya School’s holistic approach to education. His debut solo exhibition, “Street Dream” in 2017, supported by the British High Commission, catapulted him onto a global stage. Documenting the World Trade Center’s reconstruction and earning Forbes Asia’s 30 under 30 in 2016, his acclaim soared. Recognized with the MIT Media Fellowship in 2014, he’s conducted guest sessions at Harvard, Facebook, Google, and the World Bank. His remarkable journey culminated in a meeting with Prince Edward at Buckingham Palace.
