Tight Security Arrangements for Delhi Assembly Election Vote Counting

New Delhi: With the Delhi Assembly elections concluded, all eyes are now set on February 8, when the counting of votes will take place. The counting for all 70 assembly seats will be conducted at 19 counting centers across the national capital. To ensure a smooth and secure process, Delhi Police and 38 companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed.

In a press conference held at the Police Headquarters on Friday, Special CP Devesh Srivastava stated that unprecedented security measures have been put in place across Delhi, including at all 19 counting centers, to ensure peaceful vote counting. Around 15,000 personnel from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces will be deployed, while intelligence agencies and senior officers will closely monitor the situation.

According to the Special CP, strict security arrangements have been made in and around the counting centers. The surrounding areas have been turned into high-security zones since Thursday night. No one will be allowed to enter the counting centers without a valid Election Commission pass.

A 100-meter security perimeter has been established around each counting center, with a significant number of security personnel stationed. Public movement and general traffic will be restricted in these zones. Barricades have been placed 100 meters before the centers, and intensive security checks will be conducted for every entrant. Metal detectors and scanner machines have been installed at all counting centers, and random vehicle inspections will be carried out at multiple checkpoints.

The Special CP further informed that paramilitary forces will be deployed both inside and outside the strong rooms where the EVMs are stored. A three-layer security system has been implemented:

First layer: Local police deployment.
Second and third layers: Paramilitary forces ensuring strict security.
PCR vans will be stationed outside all counting centers for rapid response.
Additionally, traffic police have been deployed to manage movement around the counting centers, similar to their role on polling day.
