WTA Finals: Olympic Gold Medalist Zheng Reaches Final, Defeats Krejcikova

Riyadh: China’s Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen has advanced to the final of the WTA Finals on Friday. Zheng defeated Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-5 in the semifinal match.

Making her debut at the WTA Finals, Zheng secured her spot in the final and equaled the best performance by a Chinese player in the tournament since former French Open champion Li Na in 2013.

The 22-year-old Zheng will face the winner of the semifinal clash between top seed Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff in the final on Saturday.

Notably, Krejcikova reached the semifinals by defeating Coco Gauff in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, which led to the elimination of second-seeded Iga Swiatek despite her victory. Top seed Sabalenka, along with Zheng and Gauff, had already secured their places in the semifinals.
