Lalu Yadav Faces Major Setback as Supreme Court Clears Way for CBI Probe in “Land-for-Jobs” Case

New Delhi: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has received a significant setback from the Supreme Court in the “land-for-jobs” case, as the Court refused to quash the FIR, effectively clearing the way for a continued investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A bench comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh observed during the hearing that no strong or valid grounds were found to interfere with the FIR at this stage. The Court noted that there was no justification to halt the investigation, allowing the probe agency to proceed with its inquiry.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities in railway recruitment during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister. It is alleged that jobs in the Indian Railways were given in exchange for land parcels, which were reportedly transferred in the names of family members or close associates of the RJD chief, in violation of established recruitment norms.

The matter has remained under intense legal and political scrutiny for several years. Several accused persons have already faced action in connection with the case, and the Supreme Court’s latest decision is expected to intensify the legal proceedings further.

With this ruling, Lalu Prasad Yadav is likely to face deeper legal challenges as the case will now continue in the lower courts. The CBI will further strengthen its investigation based on evidence and procedural requirements.

The development is also expected to have political implications in Bihar, where the issue is likely to trigger renewed debate between ruling and opposition parties in the coming days.
