Swiggy Unites India’s EV Ecosystem to Power Last-Mile Delivery
New Delhi: Swiggy, one of India’s leading on-demand convenience platforms, brought together key stakeholders from the country’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem at its EV Mobility Conclave themed “Powering the Last Mile”, in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
The conclave brought together EV manufacturers, charging and battery-swapping providers, rental and fleet partners, financiers and delivery partners to explore ways to make electric two-wheelers a practical and affordable option for last-mile delivery.
At the event, Swiggy launched battery-swapping stations at its Instamart pods across 25 locations, developed in collaboration with ecosystem partners. The company is also introducing EV rental facilities at Instamart pods, enabling delivery partners to access vehicles from the same locations where they collect orders.
Swiggy Co-founder and Group CEO Sriharsha Majety said delivery partners remain at the centre of the company’s operations, and its vision is to make their work easier and more rewarding. He said removing everyday barriers and designing solutions around partners’ existing routines would make the transition to electric mobility a natural choice.
Bringing EVs Closer to Delivery Partners
A delivery partner visits a pod around 20 times during a busy day. By integrating battery-swapping and EV rental facilities into these locations, Swiggy aims to save partners the time otherwise spent travelling to charge or collect vehicles.
The time saved can be used to complete more deliveries or attend to personal responsibilities.
Swiggy Head of Corporate Affairs Neha Singhvi said EV adoption in last-mile delivery depends on broader ecosystem support, including affordable financing, reliable charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, and supportive policies.
She appreciated the government’s continued engagement and said Swiggy would work with industry stakeholders and policymakers to develop solutions that support delivery partners choosing electric vehicles.
Recognising EV Pioneers and Ecosystem Partners
The conclave recognised delivery partners for their EV adoption journey and ecosystem partners for their contribution to building supporting infrastructure.
The ecosystem partners honoured included Indofast Energy, Yulu, Bounce Daily, RideEV, Baaz Bikes, Motovolt, Shadowfax, BGauss Auto, Velo Mobility, Hala Mobility and Yuma Energy.
Delivery partners Sajan Lal, Kamal Kumar, Avnish, Sandeep Gupta, Vijay, Hrithik and Khurshid were also felicitated.
Bounce Co-founder and CTO Varun Agni said vehicle availability remains a major barrier for people seeking delivery work. He noted that affordable EV rentals, combined with an established battery-swapping network, help riders save time, effort and money, contributing directly to their daily earnings while enabling more efficient fulfilment of customer demand.
EV delivery partner Umesh said he rented an electric vehicle at an affordable rate through the Swiggy app, with the rental amount deducted from his payout as per his preference. He added that battery swapping at Instamart pods was convenient and helped him make better use of his working day and increase his earnings.
Gadkari Emphasises Clean and Affordable Mobility
Addressing the conclave, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said India’s growth depended on clean, efficient and affordable transportation.
He described delivery partners as the backbone of the new economy and said their adoption of electric vehicles would benefit their incomes, cities and the environment.
Gadkari appreciated Swiggy and its partners for working together to bring practical solutions to delivery workers. He emphasised the need for continued collaboration between the government and industry to make EV adoption easier for every delivery partner willing to make the transition.
