MLA Sanjeev Jha’s Persistent Efforts for the Recognition and Respect of Maithili and Bhojpuri
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sanjeev Jha, who represents the Burari constituency in Delhi, has been tirelessly working to promote and enhance the recognition of Maithili and Bhojpuri languages. As the Vice President of the Maithili-Bhojpuri Academy under the Delhi Government, he has been advocating for the inclusion of Maithili in the list of classical languages. In this regard, he had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who recommended the matter to the Ministry of Culture for further consideration.
Speaking about this development, MLA Sanjeev Jha stated, “On December 5, 2024, I wrote a letter to the Honorable Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, requesting the inclusion of the Maithili language in the list of classical languages. I am pleased to inform you that I have received a response to my letter. The Home Minister has confirmed that this matter pertains to the Ministry of Culture and has forwarded my letter to the concerned ministry. This is a significant step forward in promoting Maithili and recognizing it as a classical language. I remain committed to contributing to this cause in every possible way.”

Sanjeev Jha is not only advocating for the official recognition of Maithili but also highlighting its rich cultural significance. He has consistently emphasized that Maithili and Bhojpuri are more than just languages—they are integral parts of the region’s culture, traditions, and identity. Under his leadership, several cultural events have been organized in Delhi and Bihar to celebrate and promote Maithili and Bhojpuri arts, including music, theater, and other traditional forms. These events have also provided platforms for local artists to showcase their talent and reach wider audiences.
Recently, Sanjeev Jha also demanded the establishment of dedicated institutions for Maithili and Bhojpuri languages and their mandatory inclusion in the curriculum of schools and colleges. He remarked, “The preservation of languages is only possible when we connect the younger generation to their significance.”
Jha’s consistent efforts have brought a renewed sense of hope and pride to the Maithili and Bhojpuri-speaking communities. His initiatives are being widely appreciated, not just in his constituency but also across Bihar and North India.
