High-Speed BMW Tragedy: Finance Ministry Official Killed, Influential Woman Driver Arrested
New Delhi: A deadly accident on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, while his wife Sandeep Kaur was seriously injured. The incident occurred near Dhaula Kuan on Ring Road when a high-speed BMW, allegedly driven by Gagandeep Kaur, collided with the motorcycle on which the couple was riding.
According to multiple media reports, the arrest of the woman driver was made by Delhi Police at New Life Hospital, GTB Nagar, where both Gagandeep and her husband were admitted after the accident. Navjot and Sandeep were also admitted to the same hospital, where Navjot later succumbed to his injuries.
Gagandeep, aged 38, was accompanied in the car by her husband Parikshit Makkar (40) at the time of the crash. The couple reportedly resides in Gurugram and runs a luxury goods business. Parikshit Makkar’s name has also been recorded in the FIR.
The deceased, 52-year-old Navjot Singh, was serving as Deputy Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry. The couple had visited Bangla Sahib Gurudwara the previous day and then had lunch at Karnataka Bhawan, RK Puram before returning home, when the accident occurred. Sandeep told the police that the BMW was speeding and hit their motorcycle from behind, causing it to topple.
Navjot and Sandeep were transported to the hospital in a van accompanied by Gagandeep. Sandeep stated that she repeatedly asked Gagandeep to take them to the nearest hospital, but Gagandeep instructed the van driver, Gulfam, to take them to New Life Hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 19 kilometers away from the accident site.
Police sources now indicate that Gagandeep’s father is a co-owner of the hospital, and an investigation is underway to determine whether there was any attempt to suppress evidence. Hospital officials claimed that all rules were followed but refused to confirm any relationship between Gagandeep and the hospital owners. Sources further suggest that the police suspect Gagandeep may have taken Navjot and Sandeep to New Life Hospital with an intent to tamper with evidence, including medical reports.
This tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns over road safety, accountability, and potential influence in legal proceedings.
