Lucknow: On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his greetings to the people of the state through a heartfelt letter. He described Raksha Bandhan not merely as a festival of tying a sacred thread on a brother’s wrist, but as a sacred occasion of affection, trust, emotional bonding and commitment.

The Chief Minister said Raksha Bandhan strengthens family bonds while fostering a sense of warmth, brotherhood and mutual affection in society. He described the festival as a symbol of India’s strong and glorious Sanatan cultural traditions.

In his letter, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Raksha Bandhan is much more than the tying of a protective thread on a brother’s wrist. It symbolises the affection, trust and commitment to protect one another shared between brothers and sisters.

He said festivals in Indian culture are not merely occasions for celebration; they also connect society with its values, traditions and cultural ethos. Raksha Bandhan is an important part of this enduring tradition.

Recalling the Story of Lord Krishna and Draupadi

To explain the deeper significance of Raksha Bandhan, the Chief Minister referred to the traditional episode involving Lord Krishna and Draupadi. He said that when Krishna’s finger was bleeding, Draupadi tore a piece from the edge of her sari and tied it around his finger.

According to the Chief Minister, Krishna reciprocated Draupadi’s affection and emotional bond by protecting her in a time of crisis. The episode reflects the mutual values of affection, trust and protection deeply rooted in Indian culture.

Making Values a Part of Life Essential for the New Generation

CM Yogi said that in today’s times, it is more important than ever for the new generation not merely to know about Indian values and traditions, but also to make them a part of their everyday conduct.

He said values strengthen families and keep society united. These values help develop sensitivity, a sense of responsibility and respect for others.

The Chief Minister also said that Indian cultural values strengthen the spirit of equality, fraternity and social harmony. These principles promote mutual trust and cooperation within society.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the spirit of protection should not remain limited to family relationships; it should also be reflected in the commitment of a sensitive and responsible government.

He said the safety, dignity and empowerment of women and girls in Uttar Pradesh remain among the government’s highest priorities. The government is committed to creating a secure environment where women can progress and have better opportunities in education, employment and self-reliance.
