Floods Disrupt Life in Assam; Flash Flood Warning for Uttarakhand and Several Other States, Fishermen Advised to Stay Ashore

New Delhi: Continuous heavy rainfall has severely affected normal life across several parts of India. Flood conditions remain critical in Assam, forcing thousands of people to evacuate to safer locations. In Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, authorities have issued a safety advisory for riverfront ghats following a significant rise in the water level of the Ganga River.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert, warning of torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across 22 states over the next eight hours. According to the IMD, a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal is driving widespread rainfall across eastern, central, western, and northern parts of the country.

The weather department has forecast strong winds with speeds ranging from 50 to 80 km/h in several regions. These conditions could disrupt normal life, transportation services, and power supply.

The IMD has also warned of the risk of flash floods over the next 24 hours in several districts of Uttarakhand, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. State governments and local administrations have been advised to remain on high alert and implement necessary precautionary measures.

A special advisory has also been issued for coastal areas. The IMD has urged fishermen not to venture into the sea until the morning of July 29 in the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the coasts of Odisha, West Bengal, and northern Andhra Pradesh. Sea conditions are expected to remain extremely rough, with wind speeds likely to reach 50–70 km/h.

The weather department has appealed to citizens to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel, and strictly follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety during the adverse weather conditions.
