If Films Are Failing, It’s Our Fault: Salman Khan

New Delhi: Salman Khan’s much-anticipated film Sikandar is set to hit theaters soon. Expected to release on Eid, the film is likely to create a buzz at the box office. The storyline and the powerful performances of the cast have already generated a lot of discussion. Recently, during the film’s promotions, Salman Khan interacted with the media and candidly addressed several questions. During this interaction, he also shared his views on the underwhelming performance of Bollywood films at the box office.

Salman’s Blunt Take on the Box Office Situation

Sharing his honest opinion about the current state of Bollywood films at the box office, Salman Khan said, “If the films themselves are bad, how will they work? The films being made right now are not good, and that includes my own films. It’s simple—if a movie is good, it will work; if it’s bad, it won’t. If films are made poorly, they will flop—there’s no doubt about it.”

Salman Takes Responsibility for Film Failures

Taking responsibility for the failure of films, Salman stated, “It is a star’s responsibility to bring the audience to theaters. A real star is someone whose presence on a poster ensures footfall in cinemas. If films are not performing well, then the accountability also lies with the star.”

He also spoke about the flaws in screenplay writing, highlighting that a significant reason for the lack of quality content in Hindi cinema is weak storytelling. According to him, unless proper attention is given to scripts, the industry will continue to face a shortage of well-made films.

Salman on Scriptwriting in Bollywood

Speaking about scriptwriting, Salman Khan advised, “Don’t assume that the audience won’t understand. Writers today are writing for themselves, competing with directors, while producers are racing against each other. Everyone is just trying to prove how films should be made. But movies should be made for the audience. Write in such a way that even if you sit in the front row, you can enjoy the film. Don’t underestimate the audience; they are very intelligent.”

Advice for Filmmakers and Producers

Salman also gave crucial advice to producers and directors, saying, “The audience has evolved significantly. Due to OTT platforms, they now have access to films and content from all over the world. Make a movie only when you have a solid script. Don’t make films just based on an actor’s availability, their dates, or your budget.”

He urged filmmakers to focus on the right reasons and purposes when making movies, rather than following trends or rushing projects.
