Ranchi, Jharkhand: Protests by students over alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations have intensified in Jharkhand. In Ranchi, protesting students took out a ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march. During the protest, the students broke through police barricades near the old Assembly building and attempted to move towards the new Assembly building.

In view of the protest, police tightened security arrangements in the area. Meanwhile, BJP leaders protesting outside the Chief Minister’s residence were detained by the police. The BJP leaders were demonstrating against the government over alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC examinations.

Babulal Marandi Demands CBI Probe

Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi criticised the state government over the students’ protest. He said that students were continuing to raise their concerns, while the government was attempting to divert public attention from the issue.

Babulal Marandi said, “Students are continuing their protest, but the government is trying to divert people’s attention. There should be a CBI investigation into all these matters related to JPSC, JSSC and CGL.”

Mahua Maji Says 98% of Demands Have Been Accepted

Meanwhile, JMM MP Mahua Maji said that 98% of the students’ demands had been accepted during a meeting between the students’ delegation and ministers. She said that immediately after the meeting, both the students and ministers had stated that 98% of the demands had been accepted, and the students had also acknowledged this.

Mahua Maji said that the protest resumed later, possibly following the intervention of certain political parties. She said the remaining 2% of demands include an issue related to an examination whose results were declared following orders of the Supreme Court and High Court, and several candidates had already secured jobs based on the results.

She said that the government could not cancel the examination unless there was a court order to that effect. Mahua Maji also appealed to the students not to take out a protest march.

ED Registers ECIR in JPSC Examination Case

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in connection with alleged irregularities in a Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination.

With the students’ ongoing agitation over the JPSC and JSSC examinations, the Opposition’s demand for a CBI probe and the ED registering an ECIR, the issue has assumed greater significance.

The students’ protest is currently continuing, while the government has appealed to them to call off the agitation and resolve the matter through dialogue.
