Kejriwal Promises Free Bus Rides and Metro Fare Discounts for Students
New Delhi: As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been making new promises to the public. In its latest pledge, the party announced that if re-elected, it would offer free bus travel for students in Delhi and 50% discounts on Delhi Metro fares. Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has also written to the Prime Minister regarding this proposal.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to approve a 50% fare concession for students on the Delhi Metro. He also proposed that the cost of this discount be equally shared between the Delhi Government and the Central Government.
In his letter, Kejriwal highlighted that the Delhi Metro operates under a 50-50 partnership between the Central and Delhi governments, and therefore, the expenses for such a scheme should also be equally divided.
He further stated that the Delhi Government is planning to make bus travel free for students, expressing hope that the Prime Minister would support this initiative.
During a press conference, Kejriwal assured students in Delhi that transportation costs would no longer hinder their education. “Our government will ensure free bus travel for school and college students, and we will also provide concessions on Metro fares. Every rupee spent on students is an investment in the nation’s future,” he said.
This proposal is seen as part of AAP’s broader efforts to support education and make Delhi more accessible for students. It remains to be seen how the Central Government will respond to this initiative.
