Military sites on Qeshm and Kharg Islands targeted; US confirms operation as regional tensions escalate once again

Tehran/Washington: Tensions between the United States and Iran have surged once again after the US military carried out airstrikes on multiple military installations in southern Iran. According to initial reports, several people were injured in the attacks. Powerful explosions were reported on Qeshm and Kharg islands, raising fears of a fresh escalation in the region.

US Central Command Confirms the Operation

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes, stating that the operation was conducted in response to alleged Iranian attacks on civilian commercial vessels navigating international maritime routes.

According to the US, three commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz were targeted in what it described as a violation of the ceasefire. American officials said the precision strikes on Iranian military positions were carried out as a direct response to those incidents.

Iran Issues Strong Warning

Reacting sharply to the attacks, Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused the United States of violating international agreements and condemned the strikes as a breach of international law.

Tehran warned that the US would face “serious consequences” for its actions and reiterated that Iran reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty, security, and strategic interests.

Fears of Wider Regional Escalation

Security analysts believe the latest military confrontation could further heighten instability across the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, is vital to global energy supplies, and any escalation in the area could disrupt international trade and impact global oil markets.

The international community is closely monitoring developments as both Washington and Tehran weigh their next moves amid rising geopolitical tensions.
