PM Modi’s Humble Gesture Wins Hearts, Offers ‘Dandavat Pranam’ to the People of Bengal

Kolkata: Saturday marked a historic day in West Bengal’s political history as the state witnessed the formation of its first-ever Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. In a landmark ceremony held at Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade Ground, Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal by Governor R.N. Ravi, formally ushering in a new political chapter and bringing an effective end to the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule that began in 2011.

While the swearing-in ceremony itself was historic, the moment that captured the hearts of thousands was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s deeply humble and emotional gesture toward the people of Bengal.

As he acknowledged the massive gathering at the venue, Prime Minister Modi bowed fully before the crowd in a ‘dandavat pranam’, expressing profound gratitude and respect to the people of the state. The emotional gesture instantly became the defining moment of the event, drawing thunderous applause and chants from the packed Brigade Parade Ground.

The Prime Minister’s act conveyed a powerful message — that he views the public mandate not merely as a political victory, but as a blessing and trust bestowed by the people. The moment resonated strongly with supporters, many of whom described it as a rare and touching display of humility by a national leader.

Adding to the emotional significance of the occasion, PM Modi also sought the blessings of 98-year-old veteran BJP worker Makkhanlal Sarkar, one of the party’s oldest grassroots leaders associated with nationalist movements in post-independence India. His gesture toward the senior party worker was widely appreciated as a symbol of respect for dedication and ideological commitment.

The event held special cultural significance as it coincided with the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Before the ceremony commenced, Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by Suvendu Adhikari, paid floral tribute to the Nobel laureate, honoring Bengal’s rich literary and cultural heritage.

The grand ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, and senior party leaders from across the country. Political observers described the occasion as one of the most significant shifts in West Bengal’s contemporary political landscape.

After taking oath, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari reaffirmed his commitment to transparent governance, inclusive development, and welfare-oriented administration for the people of West Bengal.

However, it was PM Modi’s humble dandavat pranam that emerged as the most memorable and inspiring image of the day — a moment that underscored the idea that even in the grandest political victories, humility remains the greatest strength.
