President Droupadi Murmu Takes a Holy Dip in the Sacred Sangam of Prayagraj

Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Welcome the President

Mahakumbh Nagar (UP) : The first citizen of the country, President Droupadi Murmu, took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Monday. At the Triveni Sangam, President Murmu also fed grains to migratory birds. This historic moment marks the first time that the President of India has taken a holy dip in the Sangam. It is noteworthy that India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, had also taken a holy dip at the Mahakumbh earlier. In view of the President’s visit, security arrangements in Prayagraj were tightened.

Upon her arrival in Prayagraj on Monday morning, President Droupadi Murmu was welcomed by Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. From there, the President traveled to the Aril Ghat, where she boarded a cruise to reach the Triveni Sangam. During this journey, the President enjoyed a boat ride and fed birds from her own hands. Amid Vedic chants, the President took a dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam with full devotion.

Before taking the holy dip, the President offered flowers and coconuts at the Sangam and paid her respects to Lord Surya (the Sun God). She then took several dips while praying to the holy rivers—Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Following the holy dip, amid Vedic chants and hymns, the President performed a puja and took part in the Sangam aarti. During this time, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath briefed her about the Mahakumbh event and its related arrangements.

After the sacred dip at the Sangam, President Droupadi Murmu will visit the Akshay Vat (Immortal Tree) to strengthen the religious significance of the place. The Akshay Vat is considered a symbol of immortality in Sanatan culture and is an important Hindu pilgrimage site, mentioned in ancient scriptures. Additionally, she will visit the large Hanuman temple to offer prayers for the well-being and prosperity of the nation.

Furthermore, President Murmu will extend her support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiative to integrate religious events with modern India and the digital age. She will also visit the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Center.

The President is scheduled to depart from Prayagraj for New Delhi at 5:45 PM.
