Prime Minister Modi Meets Para-Athletes Who Won 29 Medals in Paris

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Indian para-athletes who made the nation proud by winning a historic 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics 2024 at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday.

During the meeting, which lasted for over an hour, Prime Minister Modi interacted with the para-athletes and listened to their success stories from Paris. Notably, India secured 29 medals (7 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze) in the historic Paralympic campaign, surpassing its previous best performance of 19 medals at the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics.

Shooter Avani Lekhara, who won the gold medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event in Paris, presented Prime Minister Modi with a signed T-shirt that read, “Thank you for your support, Sir.” Prime Minister Modi also signed the medal of the gold medalist.

After meeting the Prime Minister, Paralympic gold medalist in archery, Harvinder Singh, said, “I gifted Prime Minister Modi the arrow I used in the Paralympics. He inspired us greatly and congratulated our team.”

Meanwhile, Mona Agarwal, who won the bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event, said, “We discussed various issues with the Prime Minister, and he spoke with us personally. I always wanted to meet Prime Minister Modi in person, and I finally got the opportunity. He inquired about my children and family. It feels incredible that the country’s Prime Minister is so well aware of our families.”
