RBI Appoints Indranil Bhattacharyya as Executive Director

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Indranil Bhattacharyya as an Executive Director (ED). As an Executive Director, Bhattacharyya will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research. His appointment will be effective from March 19.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the RBI mentioned that before his promotion to Executive Director, Bhattacharyya served as an Advisor in the Monetary Policy Department. Over nearly three decades, he has worked in the Monetary Policy Department, Economic and Policy Research Department, and the International Department of the RBI, focusing on monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking, and international economic relations.

The central bank highlighted that his research interests primarily include monetary theory and policy, financial markets, market microstructure, and fiscal policy. Previously, he also served as an Economic Expert in the Governor’s Technical Office at Qatar Central Bank, Doha, Qatar, for five years (2009-14). Bhattacharyya holds a postgraduate degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
