Samrat Choudhary Sworn in as Bihar’s New Chief Minister, BJP Takes Helm for the First Time

Patna :  In a major political development in Bihar, Samrat Choudhary has been sworn in as the 24th Chief Minister of the state. Alongside him, Vijay Choudhary and Bijendra Yadav took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. This transition marks the formal end of nearly two decades of governance led by Nitish Kumar.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan, where Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office and secrecy to Samrat Choudhary. Several senior leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were present at the event.

This is the first time in Bihar’s history that a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party has assumed the Chief Minister’s post. Previously, under the NDA alliance, the position was held by leaders from the Janata Dal United.

Ahead of this political shift, Nitish Kumar dissolved his cabinet and resigned as Chief Minister. He is now expected to continue his role as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.

Samrat Choudhary joined the BJP in 2017 and served as Deputy Chief Minister in the previous government. He also held the crucial Home Department, which strengthened his administrative profile and influence.

Choudhary belongs to the influential Koiri (Kushwaha) community and becomes only the second leader from this group to serve as Chief Minister after Satish Prasad Singh, who had a brief tenure in 1968.

He now joins the league of leaders like Karpoori Thakur who have served as both Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister. However, unlike Thakur, who had to wait years for the top post, Choudhary’s rise has been relatively swift.

With Samrat Choudhary taking charge, Bihar enters a new political phase. All eyes are now on his policy decisions and governance approach, which will shape the state’s future trajectory.
