TMC to Conduct Door-to-Door Survey to Identify Fake Voters in West Bengal
Kolkata (West Bengal): Ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken a major step to identify fake voters in the electoral rolls. The party will launch a statewide door-to-door survey starting this weekend to verify the authenticity of registered voters. This decision was finalized in the first meeting of TMC’s special core committee, which was formed last month to examine the voter list and detect fraudulent entries.
The survey will be conducted at the district level, with operations at the block level in rural areas and the ward level in urban areas. The survey will focus on five key aspects:
Identifying individuals who are ineligible to be listed as voters in West Bengal.
Detecting cases where the same EPIC (voter ID) number has been assigned to two different names.
Deploying separate teams at each polling station to ensure accuracy in the verification process.
Compiling a list of genuine voters whose names may have been removed from the electoral roll for various reasons.
Conducting a special review of names added online to the voter list.
Additionally, each core committee member has been assigned the responsibility of reviewing three districts. They have been directed to oversee the survey process in their respective areas and prepare reports based on their findings.
TMC senior leader and party’s parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, emphasized that the party is taking this matter seriously as it suspects that the BJP is plotting a conspiracy ahead of the 2026 elections. He claimed that similar tactics were used in the Delhi and Maharashtra Assembly elections, but assured that such a plan will never succeed in West Bengal.
Similarly, State Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose stated that the party will make every effort to ensure an error-free voter list.
