4th Baba Deep Singh Hockey and Basketball Tournament to Begin from April 17 at Khalsa College
New Delhi : The 4th Baba Deep Singh Hockey (Men & Women) and Basketball (Men & Women) Tournament will commence on Thursday, April 17, at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Delhi University. This annual sporting event is organized by the college with the aim of promoting sportsmanship and competitive spirit among youth.
The tournament will be inaugurated by Mr. Ashok Diwan, Hockey Olympian and a member of the 1975 Hockey World Cup-winning team. Also present at the opening ceremony will be Mr. Gautam Wadhera, Joint Secretary of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, and Professor Gurmohinder Singh, Principal of Khalsa College.
According to Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Nanda, Director of Physical Education at Khalsa College, the hockey tournament will be held at the inter-college level for both men and women. Six teams will compete in the men’s hockey category, while four teams will participate in the women’s category. The men’s competition will follow a league-cum-knockout format, while the women’s competition will be held in a round-robin league format.
The basketball tournament will start on April 21, 2025, featuring eight teams in both the men’s and women’s categories. The basketball matches will also follow a league-cum-knockout format, with the final scheduled for April 25, 2025.
The entire tournament is being organized with the support of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.
