Mumbai Indians Win WPL 2025 Title, Defeat Delhi Capitals by 8 Runs
Mumbai: Mumbai Indians put on a stellar performance in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 final, defeating Delhi Capitals by 8 runs to claim their second championship title. The thrilling match, played at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, kept fans on the edge of their seats, but in the end, Mumbai emerged victorious.
Losing the toss, Mumbai Indians were sent in to bat first but got off to a shaky start. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings after early setbacks. Harmanpreet played a brilliant knock of 66 runs, while Sciver-Brunt contributed 30 runs. Their crucial partnership helped Mumbai post a competitive total of 149 runs in 20 overs.
Chasing a target of 149 runs, Delhi Capitals also struggled at the start. Marizanne Kapp (40 runs) and Jemimah Rodrigues (30 runs) tried to stabilize the innings. In the final overs, Delhi’s batters fought hard to chase down the target, but Mumbai’s disciplined bowling attack restricted them, leaving them 8 runs short.
This was Delhi Capitals’ third consecutive failure in a WPL final. In 2023, they lost to Mumbai Indians, in 2024, they were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore, and now in 2025, Mumbai Indians have once again shattered their dreams.
With this victory, Mumbai Indians have become the first team to win the WPL title twice. They had previously won the inaugural WPL season in 2023, defeating Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. By securing another win over Delhi in 2025, Mumbai has further cemented its dominance in the tournament.
