New Delhi: On the second day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Congress staged a protest near the Prime Minister’s official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra led the sit-in demonstration, while Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh arrived at the protest site to hold discussions with the demonstrators.

The protest was led by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K.C. Venugopal, Pawan Khera, several Members of Parliament, and party workers.

Rahul Gandhi demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that the government was avoiding accountability for the police action against protesters and refusing to allow a discussion on the issue in Parliament. He also accused the government of suppressing democratic voices.

The demonstration followed the “Chalo Parliament” march held a day earlier. According to the Congress, police used force against protesters during the march, leaving several people injured. The party said the government must answer for the incident.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also joined the protest. After being detained by Delhi Police, he accused the BJP of attempting to silence students and young protesters and criticized the police action as an effort to suppress those demanding accountability.

Delhi Police tightened security around Lok Kalyan Marg during the protest and detained several Congress workers. Minor scuffles were also reported between protesters and police personnel.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh reached the protest venue and held talks with Congress leaders. However, despite the discussions, the Congress continued its sit-in, maintaining its demands.

The Congress said its protest was against the alleged police action on demonstrators and demanded accountability from the government. The Centre has yet to issue a detailed official response on the developments.
