Earthquake in Uttarkashi: Two Tremors in an Hour, No Loss of Life or Property

Dehradun/Uttarkashi (Utrakhand): This morning, earthquake tremors were felt twice within an hour in the border district of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The earthquake measured 3.5 on the Richter scale. People rushed out of their homes during the tremors. So far, no loss of life or property has been reported. The district administration has urged residents to remain vigilant and stay in safe locations.

According to the Uttarkashi Emergency Operations Center, the first tremor was recorded at 7:41 AM with a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale, and its epicenter was near Tiloth. The second tremor occurred at 8:19 AM, with a magnitude of 3.5. Its epicenter was located in the forest area of Dayara Bugyal in Bhatwari tehsil.

The District Emergency Operations Center has sought information about the earthquake’s impact from all tehsils. District Magistrate Dr. Mehraban Singh Bisht has instructed officials to gather data on the earthquake’s effects in all tehsil areas. As of now, there are no reports of any damage or casualties in the district. Local authorities have once again appealed to residents to stay in safe areas.

Memories of the Devastating 1991 Earthquake Recalled
The tremors brought back memories of the devastating 1991 earthquake that claimed over 1,000 lives in Uttarkashi. Radha Panyuli, a 76-year-old resident of Barahat, Uttarkashi, shared that the morning tremors reminded her of the bitter experiences of 1991. She said, “I can never forget the earthquake of 1991.”
