New Delhi: Tension prevailed at Jantar Mantar on Monday during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’s proposed ‘Chalo Parliament’ march on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Protesters attempted to march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, but police stopped them by setting up multiple barricades, leading to scuffles and a chaotic situation.

Protesters claimed that several people were injured during the police action and that some sustained head injuries. According to the demonstrators, a large number of protesters breached the barricades and advanced towards Parliament Street, with some reaching near the Parliament Street Police Station. Heavy deployment of Delhi Police personnel and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was seen across the area to maintain law and order.

Delhi Police stated that the organisers had not obtained prior permission for the march. Consequently, elaborate security arrangements were made to prevent any disruption and ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke asserted that the movement was entirely peaceful, saying, “No one can stop us. The Parliament march will remain completely peaceful.”

Separately, Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike for the past 23 days, laid down three conditions for ending his fast. He demanded that the government take responsibility for reforms in the education system and alleged paper leak cases, allow a CJP delegation to visit Parliament and secure an assurance from Members of Parliament that the issue would be raised in the House. He further said that if his health prevented him from travelling, MPs should visit him at Safdarjung Hospital and provide the same assurance.

Delhi Police Denies Reports of Baton Charge and Detentions

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Delhi Police said that reports circulating in some sections of the media claiming that police used violence or detained protesters at Jantar Mantar were incorrect.

According to the police, no such incident took place and the entire situation was handled in a professional manner. Delhi Police appealed to the public not to believe rumours or misleading reports and urged everyone to cooperate in maintaining peace and law and order in and around Jantar Mantar.
